During its debut weekend, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Hollywood’s latest sci-fi film, continued to lead the daily box office charts in China, as confirmed by various sources.
The movie, directed by Wes Ball and written by Josh Friedman, grossed more than 33.15 million yuan on its third day of release.
You could say, the movie about the primate kingdom became the highest grossing show in China, even beating the original movie in Sana with the comedy genre The Last Frenzy which grossed more than 29.71 million yuan on the same day.
Well, for those of you who are curious, the movie is set centuries after the death of Caesar, the revered ape leader from the rebooted trilogy from 2011 to 2017, the movie follows the adventures of a young ape named Noa who travels with a woman named Mae. Leading movie data platforms Beacon and Maoyan reported that the film, which premiered in multiple formats, including IMAX, on May 10, earned a total of 90.74 million yuan ($12.54 million) at the box office.
